How it all started

I got diabetes in April 2011. I must say it was a big suprise for my whole family, because like most of people we thought that only people with unhealthy diet can get it. But we were wrong and actually more and more people get diabetes type 1, which is not a result of fatness or anything like that. Anyways, I went for test, cause I lost weight and we were also just about to go on a vacation with a plane and we wanted to make sure that I was ok. After we found out the resutls, we had to visit the hospital. I got my first injection of insulin that  night. I wasn't actually that scared of the disease back then, cause I don't think I really knew how many changes are going to happen in my life cause of it. I was more scared that we won't be able to go on a vacation than anything.
Next day started my learning about it and I was definetly most nervous about injections and I was practically shaking before every meal. Food on the other hand wasn't a big problem, since we ate almost everything in the hospital. Funny how diffrent it is now...injectionist aren't scary anymore (I hardly feel anything) and I definitely miss some food. A girl who was with me in the room told me and my mum that she eats almost everything, like pizzas and cakes and I must say, I was relieved.  But it didn't last for long. Soon enugh I found out that the same girl was in the hospital just because of the complications with diabetes...cause of her unhealthy diet. Since then I really try to avoid any kind of food that could raise my blood sugar and with a help of stevia and my mum's creativity, I satisfy my crave for sweets every day, without high blood sugar and a fear of complications. :)  That's why I started this blog. To share my experiences, not only on a regular day, but also with food on vacations and cruises; tips and suggestions. Cause after all diabetes isn't the worse that can happen to you and with some adjustment you can live quiet a normal and good life. And I know is harder for us, teenagers and that some you aren't the most organized, but trust me, it's worth it. So check out my blog every week, cause I'll do my best to post a lot now, cause I have summer holiday, yay! And I'm in Rotterdam right now, so be ready to get a detailed story about my trip and experinces. And please note that English isn't my first langauge, so there may be some spelling mistakes. Thanks again for reading! :)
